Lady SeaWolves Fall Late To Moose

AUGUSTA, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team was topped 62-60 by the Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) tilt on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Outscored by two in the first quarter, SMCC carried a 33-30 lead into the locker room at the half. The Moose reclaimed a one-point advantage as the third quarter came to a close and went ahead by seven, their largest lead, at the five-minute mark in the fourth. The SeaWolves came storming back to record the sixteenth lead change of the game on an Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) made three-pointer with 51 seconds remaining.

UMA's Caitlin LaFountain (Topsham, Maine) gave her team a 61-60 lead on a made lay-up before the Moose tacked on another point on a made free throw with four seconds left—without an answer from the SeaWolves.

First-year Abigail Ramirez (Methuen, Mass.) netted her second consecutive 20-point performance adding seven rebounds and seven steals in 40 minutes of work. First-year Emily Emerson (Topsham, Vt.) collected 11 rebounds as the other notable performance for the SeaWolves.

LaFountain was dominant improving on her 20.4 points-per-game with 23 in this one. LaFountain pulled down 19 rebounds and recorded five blocks. Two others finished in double-digits for the Moose; Carmen Bragg (Washburn, Maine) with 13 and Dominique Lewis (Fairfield, Maine) with 11.

In suffering its first YSCC regular season loss since Feb. 8, SMCC stands 3-1 in conference play and 5-3 overall. The Moose rank second in the YSCC standings at 4-1, 6-1 overall.

The action continues after the Thanksgiving break on Thursday, Nov. 30 when the SeaWolves welcome NHTI, Concord's Community College in their first meeting since the semi-final game of the Elite 8 Tournament a season ago. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
