Lady Moose Edge Seawolves 62 - 60

AUGUSTA, Maine (UMA) - The Southern Maine Community College (6-3) Seawolves fought right down to the end, but a last-second shot clanked off the rim, sealing a 62-60 victory for the University of Maine-Augusta (6-1) women's basketball team.

Both sides exchanged three-pointers early on before settling into a defensive battle for much of the first half. A Caitlin LaFountain block in the paint at 6:25 lead to a fast break opportunity for Carmen Bragg, resulting in two made free-throws tying the game 13-13. Bragg would add to her scoring total with a three-pointer coming mid-way through the first half to give the Moose a 20-18 lead. The Seawolves answered back from the arc with a pair of threes from Jordan Farquharson and Grace Kariotis pushing SMCC into the lead at halftime 33-30

The Moose made a couple of first-half adjustments and came out on fire in the second half. The Seawolves fought back in the second half bringing the game down to the wire, eventually closing down an eight-point deficit to just three with 5:40 remaining. The Moose battled back and found themselves with a six-point lead in the last four minutes, but the Seawolves didn't back down. A three-pointer by Emily Hogan put SMCC up by one with only 42 seconds remaining in the game. Caitlin LaFountain made a strong move to the basket on the other end to give the Moose a one-point lead. The Moose sealed the victory on a converted free-throw by Dominique Lewis with 2.4 seconds remaining and would go on to win the game; 62-60.

Abigail Ramirez was the leading scorer for the Seawolves with 23 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, seven steals, and two blocks.

LaFountain led the Moose in scoring with a double-double compiling 24 points, 19 rebounds, and five blocks.
